At first he’s just a figure in the distance, a tall boy with crazy hair, silhouetted against the lawns of the Partington-Hale estate. A mirage, a figment of Roger’s desire. In the dying sunlight Aubrey casts a long shadow that runs along the neatly paved garden paths with an urgency Aubrey himself would never admit to.

And he had great skin, the kind of coffee-coloured skin that you want to lick to find out whether or not it tastes as yummy as it looks.
